Cats: Working Together?
Until today, the last time the long-haired gray cat showed up on camera was April 6 at 2am. I’m suspecting a couple of the ferals are working together.
I strongly suspect she’s about to give birth to another litter of kittens (or already has between the 6th and today).
I’ve especially noticed Boomer spending more time in her vicinity lately. I suspect he’s keeping an eye on her. This morning, I brought two cans of Fancy Feast out for Walter. He was a little jumpy, but I was able to pet him a little, and he readily ate one can. I opened the second can, and he hemmed and hawed around and began heading under the house. I picked up the bowl and put it on the porch. Later, on the camera chip. I saw he’d been at the bowl, but the bowl had nearly the full can of food in it afterward.
Not too much later, I noticed the long-haired gray cat wolfing down the contents of the bowl before going to the food bowl to eat a little more. I can’t tell if she’s had her kittens or not, but if she has, the absence would be about right before she might feel comfortable to leave them and seek nourishment. I’m imagining Boomer and Walter have been looking out for her. Walter knew when I put the second can out for him that I would leave what he didn’t eat on the porch. Long-haired gray got away from the kids as soon as she could to stock up on nourishment before heading back to mama duties. While long-haired gray was on the porch eating, Boomer was on the steps watching over her.
At least, that’s what it seems like to me.
