Cats: Tarzan
Tarzan has been quite a trial lately. For safety reasons, we compartment Sneaky into the dining room and downstairs bathroom area. Rossie and Sapphire are compartmented into the parlor and kitchen area. Most of the cats choose to spend the day in the parlor and kitchen area, but if they want out to go upstairs, we let them go. Tarzan has begun to get impatient, so he makes his own way. I have caught him jumping onto a bookcase to jump to the transoms to get into or out of a room. To thwart this, I’ve adjusted the transoms to make that less possible for him. Frustrated by that, he has taken to opening the pocket doors between the parlor and the dining room and between the dining room and the living room.
I came home after the yard sale yesterday, and clearly, Tarzan wanted out of the parlor. Both sets of pocket doors were open. By the time I got into the house to see this, all the cats except Sapphire were back in the parlor looking innocent. Sapphire was still in the living room (her first experience in this part of the house, so she had to explore, I’m sure. She came out on her own and was anxious to return to the parlor.
Even though Sapphire doesn’t want to let us touch her, she wants to be near us. I think I’ll be willing to try giving her the run of the house soon to see how she handles it. Tarzan and his single-mindedness when he wants to leave a room is something else.
