Cats: Interesting Dynamics
With this many cats, you can imagine the interfeline dynamics will always be interesting. Let’s begin with the outside cats.
Gray Socks has assumed a more regular presence. I definitely need to walk down the block and talk to the people I think he belongs to, because if he isn’t their’s, I need to get him into a carrier and taken to Dr. Val for testing, neutering, and shots. With him not being neutered, I think he’s more aggressive to Walter than he needs to be. He’s not afraid of people. Here he is waiting for me to fill the feeder. I have been able to pet him while he cleans up the Fancy Feast bowl. He’s a pretty cat. I sometimes wonder if he is Sapphire’s daddy.
This is Nick, Zelda’s (Fluffy Gray Tail) surviving kitten from the most recent litter. We have no idea what happened to the other three, but they have not been seen for over a month, so I have to presume they’ve found other territory to settle into or they met their demise somehow. We’re talking to him through the side door, and he’s watching intently.
Zelda is a regular visitor, Nick, so far, only comes at night. The photo above was a rare late evening visit shortly before dusk. Walter seems to be back on day shift for now, but he’s leery of Gray Socks, who beats him up and chases him. Walter has been very attentive and interested in affection from us humans lately, though.
No recent Boomer sitings, but I keep an eye out for him.
That’s pretty much the story for the outside cats. The inside cats are all doing well. Rossie has been tentatively exercising her newfound freedom with tentative forays into the kitchen and entry hall. I still tuck her back into the cage at night for her peace of mind. She and Lady are not yet friends. We were experimenting with leaving Sapphire out all night, but she was becoming more and more remote. She still has the run of the house during the day, but at night, we ask her to go back into the cage. In the morning, we insist upon a brief petting session before she’s allowed out again. This ensures we’ll be able to catch her if necessary.
Sneaky still wants nothing to do with Ajax. Ajax still wants to confront Sneaky at every opportunity. Sneaky has claimed my recliner as her own. Sometimes she shares with me. Everyone else is doing great.
