Cats: Zelda and Nick
Many of you will recall me talking about Fluffy Gray Tail. She has a “better” name. We now call her Zelda. As you may recall, she is Sapphire’s mama. Zelda is quite frightened of us, yet she does want the food we provide. We’re involved in a dance as we get to know her better, and she considers if she wants to trust us or not.
Unfortunately, since Zelda is not spayed, this means she is once again ready to have a litter of kittens. I predict any day now. The only known survivor from her last litter, we call Nick. He has finally begun appearing during the day, and I captured a few pictures when he came close enough to eat (he’s a growing boy, so he’s hungry all the time).
Since this picture, taken last Wednesday evening, he’s become more comfortable with moving to the food dish when I am standing nearby. He’s still very leery of me, but he’s also very curious. We figure he’s about four months old. He can’t be neutered until he’s six months old, so I have a little time to try to earn his trust.
If we can’t earn Zelda’s trust for this next batch of kittens is old enough to be weaned, we’re going to have to resort to trying to trap her. I’m ever hopeful, though.
