Tech Stuff: IOS 10
As I type this, IOS 10.1 is installing on my phone. I have little hope it will resolve my number 1 frustration with IOS 10 on my iPhone 6 Plus. Touch ID used to work pretty well on my phone. Sometimes it would roll over to the ApplePay screen, but that was because I pressed too hard and held down too long. It happened every couple of weeks, maybe.
Since installing IOS 10 (and 10.0.2, and maybe now with 10.1) on my phone, it invariably goes to Voice Control. I don’t want to use Voice Control. I have Siri disabled. Apparently, the only way to disable Voice Control is to enable Siri. Which is just another version of Voice Control, which I do not want. I tried to head this off based upon annoyance avoidance posts I’d seen before I installed the update. No good. I tried another setting. No good. What seems to work best is to have it set to respond to laying my finger on the Home button. Even with that, I get the stupid Voice Control screen a couple of times a day. (If I WANTED the screen, I guarantee you, I’d have trouble bringing it up.)
The annoying thing about this? I never had to think about it before the update, now it requires way more thought and effort than it’s worth.
So far, the emoticon explosion I expected with the update has not appeared. That’s good.
After the Home Button TouchID fiasco, the next most annoying thing is Notifications. The banner notifications used to be unobtrusive. Now, it drops down and gets in the way of whatever I’m doing on the screen — not by a lot. Just enough to be annoying.
I’ve had a chance to use 10.1 for a couple of hours now, and the Home button seems to be functioning much more smoothly. Maybe this update did address that concern without saying anything about it.
Did anyone get the iPhone 7 yet? If so, what do you think about it?
