Cats: Way Too Resourceful
Cats can be way too resourceful. We came back from breakfast this morning to discover someone had opened the pocket doors between the parlor and the dining room. Shortly thereafter, we discovered someone had opened the pocket doors between the dining room and the living room. These doors are 8 feet tall, but these cats (not naming names but Tarzan, Ajax, and Daphne) can sideways bench press them with ease. Yes, they can be locked, but the locks are out of alignment, so I had the set between the parlor and the dining room jammed with a rubber strip. The strip must have slipped to a wide spot, and the cats pushed their way through this morning. Ajax was perched where Sneaky likes to sleep and staring at her across the room. (Ajax and Sneaky do not get along.)
I chased everyone out of the dining room and closed the door, securing the rubber mat strip at a higher spot which seems to provide more friction to thwart the cats’ bench pressing efforts. I thought I had everyone out, but sure enough, an hour or so later, Tarzan was pawing at the door between the living room and the dining room from the living room side. I chased him out and reclosed the door. I think Sneaky is back by herself, but you never know with these cats.
Remember, Tarzan is the cat who has found a way to get through the transoms several times. Daphne is not far behind him in these efforts (Mr. L says Daphne’s motto is, “Why walk when you can fly.” The cat loves heights. She understands the concept of controlling the high ground.)
It’s always something.
Too funny. Smart Cats. Love it.
Two of our four dogs understand the operation of the back door. Yes, the one that has the lever instead of the knob. Fortunately, they haven’t figured out how to pull the lever down while simultaneously pulling the door toward them. They make me think of the scene in Jurassic Park: “She’s learning.”
