Cats: Daisy on 10 Day Post-Spay Indoor Recovery
Daisy’s post-spay instructions said to keep her indoors for 10 days. It’s been an interesting experience. I was concerned about what Lady would do. I needn’t have worried. This kitten, who cries at the window to go out, has a growl equivalent to a cat three times her size. She uses it wisely, too. She holds Ajax, Lady, and Daphne at bay with this growl. All three of them just look at her and keep their distance.
Rossie reluctantly shares her cage at night, but they don’t seem to mind one another. Daisy spent the first day or two hiding behind the trunk in the parlor. She’s been venturing out into more public spaces since then. She goes back to the cage to eat and drink. I think she’s using the litter box but I haven’t actually witnessed it yet (and I haven’t seen signs of not using the litter box). She spends time in the window looking out, sometimes crying. She has curled up on the base of the cat tower for extended times and napped. As I’m typing this, she’s grooming herself on the rug in the middle of the parlor floor. Mr. L caught her playing for a brief period the other evening.
Moving into the house is scary for a kitty born to the feral outdoor life, but Daisy is adapting well. And Zelda, good mama that she is, appears to have taught her a scary growl is a great defense mechanism. I have to wonder if Daisy was the one scaring Walter away. Since she’s been in the house, Walter has been here almost every morning.
