Last year I used a site to analyze blog post titles for effectiveness. Then I didn’t for about a year. The other day I returned to the site and learned they wanted personal information from me to continue using the feature. That’s well within their rights to ask this, but I wondered if someone else was performing this service without asking. That led me to Sharethrough.
One thing I’ve learned is my first off the top of my head title isn’t the best one to go with. For instance, the first title I came up with for this entry was “Tech Stuff: Post Title Analysis.” This one fared better than most, coming out with an Overall score of 63, and Engagement score of 62, and an Impression score of 37. In addition to these numbers, the analysis has some words to guide you with. They also tell you what you’re doing well. I wanted to do a little better, so I played around.
Here’s what I came up with:

So far, the best I’m doing is generating Average titles. I think I’m going to have to do a lot more work to get better at this. If you’re writing titles or headlines, consider using the Sharethrough site as a tool in your analysis process.
