Cats: Daisy’s Integration
Daisy is slowly integrating into the household. She holds some of the other cats at bay by growling. She’s become intrigued by Tarzan. Tarzan, of course, mostly ignores her. She has tried to play with Rossie, and Rossie steps away and looks at her as if to say, “Please!”
Daphne approaches her but respects the growl. Daphne tends to be overbearing, so I’m encouraged to see this respect displayed by her. Daisy isn’t growling at Ajax as much as she was at first, so she may be warming to him. Lady respects the growl as well, but has given chase, and Daisy wisely seeks cover (Lady weighs 17 pounds, so isn’t to be trifled with) when that happens.
I think Delta, Sapphire, and Ruby have been ignoring her. Sneaky and Daisy have not interacted, because Sneaky keeps herself sequestered in the dining room, and Daisy, so far, is restricted to the parlor and kitchen (although, like Rossie, she never ventures into the kitchen).
I’m looking for two things from Daisy before she gains unrestricted access the other cats have.
First, I want to ensure she’s using the litter box reliably. I believe she is. (When she first came in the house, I think she was choosing the fireplace as a litter box sometimes, but I haven’t seen any indication of that since she returned from a month of boarding while we were on vacation.
Second, I want her to hide less and be more interactive — either with us (preferred) or the other cats. We’re working on that. Progress is slow. Had I known we were going to move her in the house, I would have done so when I caught her for her first shots instead of releasing her back outside. Lost opportunity there. She’s a good-natured kitten. We’re working several angles to increase her interaction with us, and she’s seeking Tarzan out. We count that as a plus.
