Shoutout to USAA Credit Card Services — Speedy and Gracious
I was checking my credit card statement yesterday. I like to make sure I account for all the charges on the bill. Since I tend to have a lot of charges from Amazon, this was a sticky one. Everything tracked except for one $41.39 charge. I couldn’t find in on my Amazon order list. I’d gone back two pages, and the dates were well beyond the billing period. Finally, I gave up and disputed the charge, and USAA almost immediately accepted the dispute.
Something didn’t make sense, though. Amazon doesn’t make mistakes like that. They make other mistakes — like not giving access to an order after 30 days even if you haven’t received the item yet, which caused me to have to dispute a charge several months ago. But this wasn’t like them. I went back and looked again, going back another page in my order history. There it was. My refrigerator filter. Subscribe and Save. Order effective in July but not charged until August.
USAA’s phone app is terrific, but there’s no way to cancel a dispute via the app, so I had to call them. Unfortunately, they use an automated access point, which is a pain in the tail no matter who uses it, and USAA’s iteration is no better. Once I reached a human, everything went smoothly, and the young lady withdrew my dispute. I received a confirmation of the withdrawal via email this morning.
I like that USAA took my word for it and granted the disputed charge immediately. Of course, if I were lying there’s the pesky little thing of fraud, which is why I scrambled to call to correct my error as quickly as possible. Whew!
Love your honesty! There’s so much of it missing these days.
I love USAA! It’s the only “bundle” I own. All my day-to-day money business is in their hands. Not my usual style, but after nearly 50 years as customers, we do trust USAA.
Like you, I wish there were a way to cancel a dispute online. I had one a few months ago. After I got the refund I requested from the service vendor, I wanted to cancel the dispute. Talked to a person at USAA and it was done! However, I’d have preferred to tick off a box on the site. Introvert. Yeah.
We subscribe to the refrigerator filters on Amazon, too. 🙂
