Lady Broke Her Foot Yesterday
Yesterday afternoon, Lady was rummaging around on the top of Rossie’s cage. We have a lot of stuff on top of the cage to protect the cats from getting their feet caught, but Lady found the one space at the edge of the top and must have caught her right rear paw in it as she jumped down, because one minute she was on top of the cage and the next she was between me and the cage crying. Lady doesn’t cry, so I knew something was wrong. She was in serious pain.
I put her in a carrier to take her to Dr. Val, all the time thanking God it was Wednesday instead of Thursday, because Dr. Val is off on Thursdays. I waited a few minutes, because Dr. Val doesn’t come back from lunch until 3. An exam revealed swelling on her foot, and x-rays revealed she’d broken four of her five metatarsals (or whatever it’s called in cat anatomy). The fifth unbroken on is acting as a splint.
Lady got a three day pain injection, and she’s resting comfortably inside Rossie’s cage (to restrict her movement). She goes back Saturday for another injection, then we’ll assess from there. Dr. Val is confident she will heal well. Lady slept for the rest of yesterday. This morning when I came downstairs, she was sitting up. I took that as a positive sign. She’s resting again. Resting is good. That allows her body to concentrate on healing.
