Cats: Tranquility?
I’m cautiously optimistic. For the first time in years, we seem to be experiencing feline peace in the household. Everyone except Sneaky is moving freely through the areas of the house they have access to (Living room, Den, and Blue Bedroom are off-limits to all cats; the dining room and downstairs bathroom are Sneaky’s preferred domain and the other cats get restricted access).
During waking hours, Rossie chooses to remain in the parlor, but she’s still moving from place to place. Her favorite places are the window, the small hut on the cat tower, the rocking chair (on the seat and below), and behind the vacuum cleaner. When the cage was assembled, she would take refuge behind it, so when I removed the cage and vacuumed, I left the vacuum in front of the bench as a substitute for her to hide behind if she wished, and she does wish. I can pet her in the window, on the tower, and in the rocking chair. She is now beginning to purr as I reach for her. Rossie loves cat treats and will emerge from wherever she is to get some — even venturing from one side of the room to another.
Lady and Rossie seem to have agreed to ignore one another. I do have to watch Lady for that focused stare. When I see that, I know a distraction is in order. Daphne will give chase but she’s just being a pest. There is no malice in her movements.
Daisy and Sapphire have begun playing with each other. Since they are half-sisters and the youngest two, I’m pleased to see this. If I hear growling, I know Daphne is within sight of Daisy, and I need to distract her. They’ve never fought, but Daisy does not like Daphne.
I’m so proud of Rossie’s progress.
