Cats: What’s What and the Pup
The cats are getting adjusted to Jase — most of them. Someone is not happy, and I have not determined who. I am taking steps to address the unhappiness. When Jase arrived, I moved the food tower to the entry hall and added a water tower there. There are three litter boxes upstairs, but someone apparently could not be bothered to go upstairs every single time, and they were unwilling to brave the kitchen with Jase in it. I have added a new Breeze box to the entry hall, and I hope that addresses the situation. I have also ordered a few play mats, and we’ll be converting the entry hall to a cat care room — downstairs litter boxes with go there (except Sneaky — she will retain her private box in her private suite). So all the kitties will have unrestricted access to the food, water, and litter for all needed bodily functions without fear of being annoyed by a curious puppy.
Lady and Ajax are continuing etiquette lessons, and Jase is slowly learning. Daphne and Tarzan is still pretty skittish, but they will come into the kitchen when he’s there. Nobody else is willing to accept the risk.
The outside cats are doing well. We haven’t made any great strides in socialization there. Zelda and Gray Socks Ghost have been quite static in their behavior. Walter stopped by a few days this week and got a can and pets as well as his monthly Revolution dose. Scooter visited but scooted to the cupola when he saw me. I left him there to relax, and he spent most of the day there.
Jase is growing by leaps and bounds. He was 17 pounds last Monday when he went in for his second set of puppy shots. We are communicating better. He usually sits by the door and stares us down when he wants to go outside. If he needs to go outside, he has been getting more animated in his approach. He’s not biting/mouthing as much, but he still jumps up. He loves people, so we took him to the car show with us this morning, and he got a good chance to interact with other people, furthering his socialization.
