Merry Christmas!

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on December 25, 2023 by JeanDecember 25, 2023

It’s been eight months. I don’t intentionally count, but I can’t seem to avoid it.

Thirty years ago I knew I would be in this place. I wouldn’t have done it any other way, but it sure hurts.

I changed the sheets on the bed this morning (nothing remarkable there). I chose to use a new set of sheets Alan had purchased some time ago but never got around to using, so it’s as if they were a Christmas present from him.

In other news, refurbishment work has begun on the porches at the house. This is exciting! I have a plumber who will be getting a bathroom functioning at the shop. This is also exciting.

I adopted the three kittens I was fostering (Who doesn’t need more chaos in their life?), and they have turned out to be extraordinarily affectionate.

Despite my profound sadness, life is very good. I have wonderfully supportive friends who take my grief in stride.

Way Too Quiet Here

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on August 31, 2021 by JeanAugust 31, 2021

It’s been way too quiet here. It’s not because nothing has been happening, and it’s not because I don’t have anything to say about what has been happening. I have fairly strong opinions and thoughts, but at least half my readers probably have strong opposing thoughts and opinions, so I’ve chosen to remain silent.

We are doing well and have remained mostly healthy over the last year and a half. Jase is great. The cats are great. I’ve been more than busy with the non-profit animal welfare group over the last year and a half. So, locally, all is well.

Cats: Rossie

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on June 29, 2019 by JeanJune 29, 2019
Rossie

Rossie has been living in the downstairs bathroom since we returned from Pennsylvania back in October. We started with Rossie, Sapphire, and Daisy in there, but Sapphire and Daisy regressed, so we returned them to the household population, where they are active and visible.

About the time we put Sapphire and Daisy back in the main part of the house, I brought Walter into the house. He was being bullied by the outside cats and had removed himself from the yard. Walter doesn’t like confrontation, so I thought he might be a good companion for Rossie. He and Rossie get along very well.

Over the last six months, Walter has adjusted to being in the house, and Rossie is thriving. She’s acting like a cat again. I once longed for the day when she would seek out my attention, and she does that regularly. I wouldn’t call her cuddly yet, but she comes within arm’s reach and leans into a chin scratch.

A few months ago, I began leaving the bathroom door open to allow Rossie and Walter the opportunity to go into the dining room while I was in the room to supervise. This served three purposes. First, it increased their range beyond the bathoom, giving them a change of scenery — Rossie loves to sit in the dining room windows, even though she has a bathroom window she can look out.

Second, Sneaky gets some feline companionship. She knew Walter when they were both outside, and she’s either Rossie’s mama or her aunt. We don’t know which.

Finally, it allows us to assess Rossie’s socialization progress. For the longet time, Rossie would only allow us to touch her in the bathroom. Yesterday, she approached Mr. L for an ear rub in the dining room.

We’re pleased with Rossie’s progress.

The Ranch: No change.

The Store: No change

The Detail Shop: Mr. L cut and bagged some overgrowth

The Shop: Mr. L has been sorting and putting away parts and other things.

The Central TX House: No change.

Thanksgiving Gratitudes from Throughout 2016

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on November 24, 2016 by JeanNovember 24, 2016

I have much to be thankful and grateful for. My life has always been richly blessed, although I have not always acknowledged my many blessings. I sometimes chose to focus on small shortfalls and make them loom large.  When I would catch myself doing so, I felt great shame, because … Continue reading →

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on March 7, 2016 by JeanMarch 28, 2023

I thought my cats had their toys strewn all over, wondered if they needed a toybox, then I realized they had them in pretty much the same place.
