Cats — Sneaky’s Capture
I’m a little late for my weekly cat update. The big news from the last week was I captured Sneaky, and she’s staying at the vet clinic for ten days and getting spayed and her shots. Why is she staying at the clinic for ten days? Why taking food off my finger, she inadvertently bit my finger and broke the skin. Since she hadn’t been vaccinated yet, and I had no way of keeping her confined to make sure nothing happened to her, I had to accelerate my plans to catch her. I had no reason to believe she was ill, but if she disappeared in the next ten days, I would, just to be safe, probably have to get rabies shots. I really wasn’t enthused with that idea. So, I cleaned up my finger, got the carrier, and went back out to continue feeding Sneaky the can of food.
She was more than happy to take the food, but she wasn’t volunteering to get into the carrier (I can understand that). I left it on the porch overnight. The next day, I went back out, determined to catch her. The night before, I’d spent time rubbing the back of her neck and her ears to get her used to having my hand by the back of her neck. I had the carrier next to me, open on top. After about half a can of food, I took my chance and scruffed her and slid her into the carrier, and closed the lid before she really knew what happened. I managed to get the lid closed and latched right as she began fighting to get out. She was not a happy kitty. I covered the carrier with a sheet to calm her. Then we made our trip to the clinic.
She’s not happy in the cage at the clinic, but she’ll be spayed and have her immunizations when I pick her up on the 13th. Then I can begin working of rebuilding some trust with her, because she’s been a lonely kitty outside. Maybe, at some point, she and I can talk without having to have a can of food nearby.
