Other than our sad news about Nick earlier in the week, the cats’ lives have been quiet. At one time this week, we had four cats lounging on the tower at the same time. I think that’s a first. Rossie was in the bottom “bunk.” Lady was in the middle “bunk.” Daphne was in the top perch — of course, Daphne understands better than any of them the concept of taking the high ground. Mr. L wanted to rearrange the towel on top of the trunk, so he deposited Ajax in the next lower perch to bring the cat count to four on the tower. Too bad I didn’t get a photo.
During the day, Rossie, Lady, and Ajax are in the parlor/kitchen. Daphne and Delta transition in and out as we go in and out the door. Sneaky spends all her time in the dining room/downstairs bathroom, even though the door is open and she is free to roam the entry hall and upstairs. She chooses not to. Daphne, Tarzan, Delta, Sapphire, and even Ruby wander in and out of the dining room snacking on Sneaky’s food. Daphne sometimes gets confrontational with Sneaky. Mostly everyone ignores Sneaky, and that’s the way she likes it. Every couple of weeks, Lady and Rossie have a screaming match, but Rossie is much better at repelling Lady than she used to be, so we have hope. Unfortunately, Lady just won’t let it drop.
In the outside world, Daisy remains standoffish. She will eat right near me, but if I reach for her, she immediately backs away and hesitates to come back. Zelda won’t eat the canned food while I’m there but quickly comes to the bowl if I step away. Both will sit 3-4 feet away from me but neither are interested in me getting closer to them. This will be a challenge when I catch Daisy for her spay appointment tomorrow. If I’m unsuccessful in catching her tomorrow, I suspect I will have to try trapping her on Monday morning. If that doesn’t work, I’ll have to postpone her surgery. According to the game camera, Walter has been visiting regularly. I just haven’t seen him in person.
