Cats: Kitty Chatter

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on February 17, 2018 by JeanFebruary 17, 2018
Rossie

Things are still reasonably tranquil here with The Texas Love Cats. Rossie stands her ground when it’s called for, and I’m pleased to see that. Lady, for the most part, walks away when she’s told to do so. Mr. L returned home from San Antonio last night, so Ajax is calming down. He walked in the door, and Ajax dashed to meet him. Mr. L stepped outside for a minute to retrieve something from the truck and Ajax threw himself off the cat tower and scrambled into the kitchen. I’m sure he feared he’d lost his daddy again.

Remember the orange tabby? I’ve taken to calling him Scooter — he scoots whenever he sees me.

Cats: An Orange One?

Scooter

Just when I thought the outdoor cat situation was stabilized, a new kitty has appeared. He’s a gorgeous orange tabby. He looks well fed but not well-cared for, so I’m not sure what he will mean to our colony. He leaves if I approach him, so he’s not interested in association at this time. Zelda chased him off a couple of weeks ago but seems more tolerant of him now. I don’t have a name for him yet. With that lovely tail, he could be Nick’s father.

Walter has been visiting at night more regularly for the last several nights. Does he really know it’s almost time for his monthly dose of Revolution? I like to think so. Last night, I was reviewing game camera photos, and I noticed the feeder was almost empty, so I went out to fill it. Knowing Walter was likely lurking, I put some in the dish, too. I peeked out a few minutes later, and sure enough, Walter was on the porch. I threw on a coat and took him a can of Pro Plan Urinary Tract Formula (I’m shifting to that from Fancy Feast — we already feed the dry version of this to the outside cats to protect our male kitties as much as possible). I forgot to grab a dose of Revolution, so I hope he comes back, but he talked to me for a long time, he ate, and he got caught up on a month’s worth of petting. I told him we wanted to see him around here a lot more and we miss him.

Daisy has not approached me to allow me to handle her since I took her in for her initial vet visit and shots. I finally was able to coax her to eat some ProPlan this morning, but she was leery that I might try to grab her. Realizing that, I worked on getting her to stay at the food dish and eat while I was nearby. That worked well.

I took Revolution doses outside with me this morning. I was able to easily apply a dose to Nick. He remained unphased, so he should be like Walter — easy to apply. As I reached for Zelda, she left the area immediately and would not return as long as I was there. I guess she’s not going to be easy, but when is Zelda ever easy? Daisy got her initial dose at the clinic, so I’m not worried about her yet. I hope to see Walter tonight to give him his — along with another can of food and more pets.

In inside cat news, did I mention we’re back to keeping Rossie in the parlor and kitchen and tucking the into the cage at night? This is the situation she seems most comfortable with, so we’ve gone back to it for Rossie’s sake. Sapphire is allowed to go in and out at will, and it took her a few weeks to get the hang of going in and out the parlor door, but I’m happy to report this is one game she’s embracing. After much initial hesitation about going past us to get in and out the door, she’s now going in and out quite comfortably.

Nothing new to report for anyone else.
