Three-Month Vision Follow-Up
I had my three-month post-PRK follow-up exam today. Eyes are still 20-20 (they were at the one month, too, but nobody specifically mentioned it to me). There are only very slight changes now. I’m cleared for another three months. At that time, they’ll give me a reading glasses prescription, but I’m using over the counter readers with a +1.25 rating, and they work well for smaller print or more extensive reading. I don’t have much trouble reading a 12 pitch computer print out or most books–my arms are still long enough. (smile) While I don’t have trouble reading, I do have trouble with seeing finer work. Of particular disappointment is losing the ability to see the picture quality or adjustments needed to dial in my digital camera. I need to remember to take the readers with me for looking at the LCD screen. Other fine movements are difficult now–trimming fingernails is hit or miss versus being able to clearly see what I wanted to trim, for instance. I need to get in the habit of using the readers, but I also have a magnifier head visor that helps with other things. If you’re not familiar with these things and think you could benefit, the one I’m using is very inexpensive.
Don’t let this be a deterrent for the PRK procedure. Nearly everyone loses the ability to see fine things like this as they get older. I would have lost it in a couple years. You just lose it a bit sooner if you have the surgery.
