Flying and Dancing
Today, I fly home to Texas for a week. Weeks ago, I purchased a ticket for oh-dark-thirty. Last Saturday evening, Northwest’s computer called to tell me my flight from Memphis had been canceled, and I was rescheduled. Conveniently (at least partially) they moved my whole flight from the first flight of the day to the last flight of the day. I say that’s convenient, because they could have left me sitting in the Memphis airport all day.
Yesterday, I realized Montgomery is slated to get hit with severe weather from mid-late afternoon. My little Canada Air jet was likely to be delayed or canceled for take-off, resulting in me missing a connecting flight out of Memphis (not slated for nasty weather this afternoon or evening). I really wanted to get to San Antonio today and not tomorrow, so I attempted to pre-empt the weather in the only way I could determine might work.
I called Northwest this morning and offered to do them a favor by flying out on an earlier flight, and so far, it looks like it will work. I’ll have to wait in Memphis for a few hours, but I should make my connection. I can try for standby on an earlier flight that would get me into town at 3:30. Of course, hubby will be out of town then, so I’d have to take a cab home. Until the schedule change, I was supposed to be with him this afternoon.
Oh, well, as long as I arrive alive by this evening, I’ll be happy. But really, folks, I don’t dance, but this whole mess has seemed a lot like dancing to me. It looks like it will work out, though, and that’s nice. I’ll be back next week and will attempt to be more interesting than things have been lately.
Man, I wish I were the one stranded in Memphis. It’s been way to long since I’ve visited there. I adore the city.
