Photo: Game Camera Positioning Decisions
I have four ways to position the game camera when I’m monitoring outside cats. Each location presents challenges. I call this Location 1. It offers the largest field of view, but no way to tell if cats are using the doghouse or not. The cat pictured was the little calico visitor who showed up near the end of our vacation. I haven’t seen her in the photos lately, so she may have been a transient (and she never seemed to be here when there was food in the dish, so she may have just been stopping in for water like the black cat does who visits sometimes).
This is Location 2. I can see into the dog house and have a good view of the water tower but only a back end view of dining kitties. (This is Walter, by the way. He’s silvery, and he has the “cleanest bib.”)
Location 3. It’s closer, so it has a narrower field of view. I can see the feeder, but I can only see the dining cat’s head. Mr. L believes this cat is Boomer. The neck bib appears to be darker, but this is an oblique view, so I can’t be certain.
Location 4 is similar to this location. I’d get a better view of the water tower and the dog house entrance, but I believe I’d lose the food tower completely.
For now, I’ve returned the camera to Location 1.
