Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on May 22, 2026 by JeanMay 22, 2026

I made it through the three-year mark with little difficulty. A friend reminded me it’s easier if I don’t dwell on things, and, of course, that is true. Anticipation was worse than reality, and that’s pretty much true for most situations. In addition to all the other things I’m juggling (or telling myself I should be juggling), I’ve been dipping my toes back into the photography waters. The last time I was remotely serious about photography, film was the only affordable medium. In 2011, I bought a Fujifilm FinePix 550 compact camera. It had some nice features (and, frankly, is still a fairly decent compact digital camera). But I’ll be doing some traveling later this year, and I think an upgraded camera is in order for that adventure (just as the Finepix was purchased for planned travel in 2011).

A Nikon Z6 III with three lenses has joined the stable. I’m not sure I made the right choice for the three lenses, but time will tell. I had to get a sturdier tripod and a camera bag.

I listed the 1946 Coupe on Facebook Marketplace and have received more responses than the Hemmings’ ad generated. Nobody has stepped forward with cash yet, but we’ll see where this goes. The Coupe is closest to the door. Once it’s gone, I can work on the next step for this.

I’m trying to focus on practicing this quote found on Facebook in the Gratitude Zone: “Life has a particular beauty that only becomes visible when you stop looking for something better. When you set down the version of your life you were supposed to have and pick up the one that you actually have and carry it, not as a consolation prize, but as the exact and specific gift it always was.”

I also remind myself that I keep breathing, because someday, I’ll be glad I did.

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on July 22, 2025 by JeanJuly 21, 2025

My non-weight-bearing status for my right foot was extended for two weeks due to not healing as quickly as the doctor would have liked. We’ve had a lot of rain, even into July, and that’s unusual for Central Texas. Unfortunately, the Texas Hill Country had almost 20 inches in a 24-hour period and experienced catastrophic flooding, causing extensive loss of life.

Two months of sitting around hoping a foot will heal has been counterproductive for getting things done. A friend is considering starting a local photography group, so that may be a way to get away from photographic laziness. I turn 65 next month, so I’ve been ensuring everything is in place for Medicare and all that. I updated my military retiree ID card for Tricare for Life, so now it truly is indefinite.

I’m taking it easy. Now that I can walk on my foot, I  reconfigured the house to have Jase back home. I purchased and assembled a catio to put on the front porch for the cats. Eventually, I’ll bridge a small doggie door from the door window by my desk so they can come and go as they please, but for now,  it will be standalone. Tarzan, Tartoo, and Hunter are out there now and seem to be adjusting nicely.

I think I’ve accepted that this is my life now. It isn’t terrible.

Boomer seems like he may be a little healthier. Maybe it’s wishful thinking? Here’s a recent photo of him:

Fluffy and her son are still making regular visits at night. I’d dearly love to see them visiting during the day.Fluffy and Son

Fluffy is relaxing on the porch, which I like to see. We know there were four kittens in this litter. We’ve seen as many as three on the porch at one time, but for the last three to four weeks, we’ve only seen this one kitten. He seems to be doing well, and he has beautiful markings. I want to be able to catch mamma and son to get them spayed and neutered as appropriate.

In an effort to spare you even more cat photos, today, I offer fresh figs. The first crop from my cutting made from our San Antonio fig tree and planted at the Central TX house.

Photo: Deer Feeder

Philosophical Meanderings, Too Posted on June 6, 2016 by JeanMarch 28, 2023

Time to fill the deer feeder. I’m filling the feeder with 80 pounds of deer corn, because the raccoons will steal 40 pounds of it through their creative ingenuity. I’ll load fresh batteries into the cameras and set them at 90 degree angles from one another. I learned last time … Continue reading →

Determined Raccoon

As I mentioned Saturday, we have a determined raccoon trying to access the outdoor cat feeder. For the moment, we’re one step ahead of him.

final ribbon rack

This is my final ribbon rack from my Air Force days. Those who read ribbons could tell you some interesting things about my career, but they might not be able to recognize or tell you what isn’t there or why. I’m not sure I even should (but what does it … Continue reading →
