  1. Re: plastic bags
Our commissary has reusable bags that are wonderful. They hold a lot more than paper or plastic, and the handles are wide enough not to cut your hand in half. I have a dozen or more of them.

    Re: green
I’m green if it benefits me in some way. Selfish, I know, but I’m not buying into this whole ‘climate change is the work of the evil human’ schtick. Could you take some pictures of your ceilings for me? We’ll be building a house eventually and I’d love to incorporate something like that. Is it harder to keep the house warmer in the winter?

    Re: Our friend Al
I read a year or so ago that he buys his electricity at a discount from the Tennessee Valley Authority. That would be the same TVA that FDR started. Why is it still around? Oh, right, all of FDR’s programs are still around.

  2. I’ll have to check out our commissary offerings. I’m looking for sturdy, roomy, easily carried and stored bags that don’t look totally creepy. And I don’t want PURPLE. I’m not a fan of pink or purple. Sorry.

Ceilings? Sure. Nothing fancy about them. They’re tall. That, the tall windows, and the transoms seem to be what makes the difference, but I’ll do pictures.

  3. I’m right with you on the gentle approach. In our house, suburban monster that it is (well, we are a family of seven–four generations!) we use wind-generated electricity and we do sensible, tidy things, but honestly, who are they kidding?

Oh, right. Just about everybody. Global Warming (or as it’s now called, “Climate Change”) is the New Inquisition:

Defendant, do you believe in Climate Change, and that it is caused by the evils of mechanized humanity, and that only by following Al Gore like baby quails can the earth be saved?

Your Honor, I don’t completely buy the whole program–
    Off with his head!

Or, as we do now, off with his respect. Unless you fall right into the party (and I’m not sure what party it even is) line, you are ridiculed and mocked. Horrible.

I never thought of the extreme environmentalists this way before, but I think you are right: they do have a god complex. I mean, if you yourself ARE god, then you don’t have to worry about understanding and obeying the real God, right?

We’ve got the same old tote bags we’ve had for over 20 years. Faded and Funky, but washable and useful. The nicest totes around right now are the ones from Cafe Press (and you can choose a picture or saying) but they are very costly. Have you tried Etsy?
